بدأت الآن مراسم تشييع جنازة البابا فرنسيس، بحضور ملوك ورؤساء دول وحكومات وحشود مهيبة.

وسيكون من بين الذين سيحضرون من أكثر من 150 دولة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب الذي اختلف بشدة مع البابا فرنسيس في مناسبات عديدة بسبب مواقفهما المتناقضة بشكل صارخ بشأن الهجرة.وتوافد آلاف المشيعين على الفاتيكان منذ الساعات الأولى من صباح اليوم بينما وصل خلال الليلة الماضية كثيرون ممن حرصوا على أن يكونوا في مقدمة الحشود خلال الجنازة.

وقالت الإسبانية ماريا فييرو «انتظرنا طوال الليل… مرافقة (البابا فرنسيس) في لحظاته الأخيرة شيء مؤثر جداً». كما قالت الراهبة الفرنسيسكانية جيمس ماري «لقد سهرتُ طوال الليل. نريد أن نقول وداعاً لأنه كان قديساً مفعماً بالحياة ومتواضعاً وبسيطاً للغاية».وتوفي البابا الأرجنتيني الأصل يوم الاثنين عن 88 عاماً إثر إصابته بسكتة دماغية، لتبدأ بذلك فترة انتقالية مخططة بدقة للكنيسة الكاثوليكية الرومانية التي يبلغ عدد أتباعها 1.4 مليار شخص، والتي تتسم بالحفاظ على الطقوس العتيقة والرسمية والفخمة والحداد.وعلى مدار الأيام الثلاثة الماضية، زار نحو 250 ألفاً مذبح كاتدرائية القديس بطرس التي تعود إلى القرن السادس عشر لإلقاء النظرة الأخيرة على جثمان البابا المسجى في نعش مفتوح.وسيُحمل نعشه عبر الأبواب الرئيسية اليوم السبت إلى الجنازة التي ستبدأ في الساعة العاشرة صباحاً بالتوقيت المحلي (08:00 بتوقيت غرينتش)، وستُقام في الهواء الطلق، وستتجمع صفوف كبيرة من الشخصيات الأجنبية على جانب واحد من الرواق الحجري، في مواجهة مئات الكرادلة على المقاعد في الجهة المقابلة.
